It would be great if we could all stay on top of our housework. However, life can get in the way and it can be hard to find the time to undertake all of those important housework-related tasks. If only we could keep our homes as clean and as organized as those that we see on television. In reality, however, many of us struggle to stay on top of the housework quite as much as we might like.
Do not worry, there is a solution for you, even if you seem to be so busy that you have little time to do your housework. Below, you will find a few tips that can help you to stay on top of your housework with a little more success.
Create a Cleaning Schedule
One of the first things that you might want to try is creating a cleaning schedule. Work this schedule around your job and family, if you can. Think about all of the tasks that need doing and add them to the schedule. Perhaps you want to do some tasks on Mondays and others on Wednesdays. Some tasks can even be left until the weekend when you have more time on your hands.
Create a cleaning schedule that works for you, and make adjustments when you need to. You don’t have to stick to your schedule, just use it as a guide.
Prioritize Your Tasks
Think about which tasks take priority. Do those tasks first. For example, vacuuming your home may take precedence over cleaning the shower. Work out which house cleaning tasks are the most important to you and get those done first.
Once you have completed the most important tasks, you can then move on to the next tasks at the top of the list. There’s a lot of satisfaction to be gained from checking things off your housework list.
Housework will almost always need doing if you spend a lot of time at home. It’s a never-ending task, but it’s one that you can have control over.
Ask For Help
If you live with others you may want to consider asking them for help. When everyone does their fair share of the housework your home could be a nicer place to live. Talk openly with others about how you’re struggling to keep up with the housework and you’d like a bit of help. You don’t have to delegate a lot of tasks to everyone, however, a bit of help can be useful.
If you have children or teenagers, offer them some extra pocket money for helping you out a little more. Perhaps they can take the trash out or vacuum their bedroom. No matter what they do, a bit of extra help can make a difference.
Spend 10 Minutes a Day Cleaning
A really good way for you to get on top of your housework is to spend 10 minutes a day cleaning. It’s surprising how much you can get done in the space of just 10 minutes. Deal with the highest priority tasks first, and then move on to those that are less important.
When you do 10 minutes a day at least 5 days a week, you’ll find that it’s easier to keep on top of things. Empty the dishwasher, fold the laundry, vacuum the hallway, and dust the living room. Sooner or later you’ll find that you’ll get quicker at your chores meaning you’ll start to get a lot more done.
Clean Little and Often
Cleaning little and often is not the same as spending 10 minutes a day cleaning. This method works to ensure that you are more likely to stay on top of things. Rather than spending hours at a time cleaning, clean one area of your home and take a break. A few hours later clean another area of your home.
This is a good method to use if you don’t want to spend all day cleaning, but you want to get it done.
Realize Your Home Doesn’t Have To Be Perfect
If you work or you have a family or both, you should realize that your home does not need to be perfect. While it might seem nice to have a home that is impeccably clean, it’s not realistic. Homes are there to be lived in, they are there to be enjoyed. They do not need to look like a show home. Accept that your home may not be perfect, and it’s ok. No one’s home is.
Do what you can to stay on top of your housework, but don’t make it a huge deal. You have a life to live, work to do, and children to bring up. Those homes on television may be perfect, but they are far from realistic. When you have the chance, do some cleaning. If you need extra help, consider hiring a cleaner.
